Description

This Present Moment: Crafting a Better World showcases American craft in all its diversity. Accompanying a 2022 exhibition of the same name, this book highlights the stories of resilience and activism that underpin the art world's most important conversations about race, gender, and representation. Featuring over two hundred artworks from the Smithsonian American Art Museum's collection, including works by artists such as Tanya Aguiñiga, Nick Cave, and Alicia Eggert, this volume marks a significant milestone in the history of the Renwick Gallery. It honors the contributions of women, people of color, and other marginalized communities, while also introducing progressive contemporary narratives. The book's title, This Present Moment, reflects its focus on the urgent need for empathy and change in our world today. With its diverse range of artworks and artists, this volume offers a powerful vision of what is possible when craft is used to spark essential conversations about our shared future.
