Description
Hermann Nitsch: A Life in Art and Performance This oral autobiography offers a unique insight into the life and work of Hermann Nitsch, a pioneer of Vienna's postwar avant-garde. Translated from German, Nitsch recounts his artistic journey, including his family history, early childhood, and the evolution of his practice. The book is illustrated with images of his work, archival photographs, and other ephemeral material, providing a visual context to Nitsch's story. Excerpts from his writings, such as "Blood Organ Manifesto" and "Verbal Poetry of the Orgies Mysteries Theatre," punctuate the interview between Nitsch and Austrian journalist Danielle Spera. With this book, readers can gain a deeper understanding of Nitsch's life and artistic practice, including his notorious performances and the reception of his work.
