Description
Georg Lukacs's autobiography offers a unique insight into the life and thought of a key Marxist intellectual. Based on a series of interviews conducted in 1969 and 1971, this work provides a personal account of Lukacs's political struggle, philosophical development, and experiences as an emigrant. The book covers Lukacs's childhood, his early involvement with Marxism, and his major contributions to the field, including History and Class Consciousness. The author also reflects on his return to Hungary after World War II and his subsequent role as a critic of existing socialism. This Record of a Life provides a compelling portrait of a remarkable individual and offers valuable insights into the development of Marxist thought. An introduction by István Eörsi sets the context for this revealing autobiography, which is both a personal memoir and a philosophical reflection on the nature of democracy and socialism.
