In the summer and autumn of 1917, the Third Battle of Ypres took place in the muddy fields of Flanders, resulting in over half a million casualties. Norman Gladden, who had previously witnessed the horrors of modern warfare at the Somme, served with the 11th Northumberland Fusiliers throughout 1917. He kept a diary during this time, recording his personal experiences and providing an intimate insight into life as an infantry soldier in one of the most ferocious battles of the war. This book is the second part of Norman Gladden's World War One trilogy, following The Somme, 1916 and preceding Across the Piave. A portion of the revenue from every sale of each book in this trilogy goes to The National Trust.
