Description

Two Tongues by Claudine Toutoungi is a surreal and startling second collection that explores the dislocations and double takes of modern life. In this exuberant exploration, boundaries blur, languages merge, and vision is partial, leading to poems of wit, grit, and delicious abandon.

The urban and natural worlds collide in an exploration of confusion - spatial, verbal, and psychological. Questing, querulous poems shape-shift from searing to soulful to droll to defiant, as they confess, cajole, ponder, pout, and perpetually wrestle with our fractured world.

This second collection has won the Ledbury Munthe Poetry Prize for 2021. With its unique blend of wit, grit, and abandon, Two Tongues is a compelling read for anyone interested in poetry that challenges and subverts expectations.
