Description

Tradition as Challenge: Essays and Speeches by Josef Pieper explores the concept of tradition in a rapidly changing world. Pieper examines the values established throughout Western philosophy, from ancient thinkers to modern Existentialism and Marxism, highlighting their relevance and challenges. He argues that these values require re-examination to rid them of false interpretations and misunderstandings that threaten their survival. By comparing the principles of Socrates with those of Protagoras, Pieper illustrates the importance of tradition in shaping our understanding of what is valuable and meaningful. This collection of essays and speeches offers a thought-provoking examination of the role of tradition in modern life, providing a sound basis for healthy living and survival in a world facing significant challenges.
