Description

Tradition as Challenge: Essays and Speeches by Josef Pieper explores the concept of tradition in a rapidly changing world. Pieper examines the values established throughout Western philosophy, from ancient thinkers to modern Existentialism and Marxism, highlighting their significance and relevance today. Pieper argues that these values are worth re-examining, clarifying their meaning and distinguishing them from false interpretations. He contrasts the principles of individuals like Socrates with those of pragmatists like Protagoras, illustrating the importance of tradition in shaping our understanding of the world. This collection of essays and speeches offers a thought-provoking analysis of tradition's role in modern life, inviting readers to reconsider its value and significance.
