The Théâtre de la Mode: A Fashion Doll's Journey to Revival In the aftermath of World War II, Paris, a city renowned for its fashion, came together to revive its industry. In 1944, the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture launched the Théâtre de la Mode, a travelling exhibition featuring miniature mannequins dressed in the latest couture. This innovative show, which debuted in Paris in March 1945, was a testament to the city's resilience and creativity. The exhibition's success led to its journey to other European capitals and Great Britain, before reaching the United States in 1946. After serving their purpose, the mannequins were eventually rescued and donated to the Maryhill Museum of Art in Washington. It wasn't until historian Stanley Garfinkel rediscovered the exhibition in 1983 that its story was finally told. This revised edition of the catalogue brings the story up to date, with new photos and insights into the exhibition's design and creation. This revised edition includes previously unpublished photos from the 1988-1990 research and conservation in Paris, as well as enlarged images of the individual mannequins, showcasing their intricate couture details.
