Born in Czechoslovakia, Iby's early life was marked by the persecution of Jews in Germany. Her parents took drastic action to protect her, smuggling her over the border to Hungary. However, this move put her at risk, as she was caught by security police and imprisoned for her Jewish connections and illegal entry.
Despite the unimaginable hardships she faced, Iby found a way to resist and ultimately volunteered to travel with a slave labour transport of 500 women in June 1944. Her bravery and selflessness led to her being put in charge of a hospital unit at Lippstadt, where she risked her life to protect those around her from the gas chambers.
