The Vedas: The Samhitas of the Rig, Yajur, Sama, and Atharva This single-volume edition presents the complete, unabridged text of the four Vedas: Rig, Yajur, Sama, and Atharva. The translation includes four different versions, with the black Yajur text translated by Arthur Keith and the others by Ralph Griffith. The text has been thoroughly proofed and Sanskrit terms have been updated and synced across versions. The Vedas are the oldest Hindu scriptures, containing the most ancient of all Hindu texts. Originally, there were three Vedas, but the Atharvaveda was later added, bringing the total to four. The names of the Vedas reflect their original purpose: Rigveda, the "Veda of verses"; Samaveda, the "Veda of chants"; Yajurveda, the "Veda of sacrificial formulas"; and Atharvaveda, named after the sage Atharvan. This edition provides a comprehensive collection of the Vedas, divided into two main parts: the Mantra and Brahmana. The Mantra part consists of suktas, or hymns in verse, while the Brahmana part contains liturgical, ritualistic, exegetical, and mystic treatises in prose.
