Description

The Somerset & Dorset Railway in the Postwar Years The Somerset & Dorset railway route, stretching from Bath to Bristol, was a vital cross-country line in the British Isles. Prior to nationalisation in 1948, the line was jointly owned by the LMS and Southern railways, but the unification of the industry and economic realities of the 1950s brought new challenges. The line's passenger services, including the famous 'Pines Express', continued to operate until the middle of the decade, but the Beeching Report of 1963 sealed its fate. The last through passenger services operated in March 1966, as traffic was diverted away from the line. This book presents a unique portrayal of the Somerset & Dorset railway over its last two decades, featuring over 60 rare or previously unpublished images.
