Description
The Nurturing Darkness presents a unique collection of mixed media abstract paintings by Carol Bajen-Gahm. Through her use of encaustic and oil paints, seaweed prints, netting, photo transfers, and other materials, she explores the dark, confined spaces found in Newfoundland's root cellars.
These twenty-two artworks delve into the geologic processes of deposition and erosion that shape these underground structures. By scraping and painting, Bajen-Gahm creates a balance between form and color, shape and texture, resulting in a deep sense of seeing.
The artist's studio is immersed in the wild surroundings of the North Atlantic, infusing her art with the soul of Newfoundland. This book offers a fascinating glimpse into Bajen-Gahm's creative process and the natural world that inspires it.
