Description
In an alternate 2020 timeline, the course of history took a different turn. Al Gore's victory in the 2000 election led to a War on Climate Change, rather than a War on Terror. This shift in focus resulted in a twenty-year period of Democratic control, with carbon-cutting schemes becoming a cornerstone of policy. Green infrastructure projects transformed U.S. cities, creating lush environments, but at a cost - predominantly benefiting wealthy, white neighborhoods. For Maddie Ryan, a passionate advocate for change, this new reality presents a challenge. As the rhythm guitarist of Bunny Bloodlust, a queer punk band, she finds her nights and weekends consumed by music and activism. When the Eighth Ward, her home and the venue for her band, is slated for demolition to make way for a new electromagnetic hyperway, Maddie joins the fight to save it. Her involvement with the "Save the Eighth" movement forces her to confront the harm she has caused to the neighborhood, both as a resident and as a white teacher in a predominantly Black school. As the movement gains momentum, the Lab becomes the epicenter of "The Free People's Village" - an occupation that promises to be the birthplace of an anti-capitalist revolution.
