Description
Translated into English for the first time, Juan Rulfo's The Burning Plain is a landmark collection of short stories that has had a profound impact on Mexican and Latin American literature. Set in the rural region of Jalisco known as El Llano Grande, these seventeen stories explore the lives of characters in the aftermath of the Mexican Revolution and the Cristero Revolt.
The book's distinctive literary prose, characterized by laconic writing and a unique linguistic style, captures the harsh reality of a landscape and people marked by violence and hardship. This new translation brings Rulfo's work to a new generation of readers, offering a fresh perspective on a region and its people that has been shaped by conflict and struggle.
Seventy years after its initial publication in Spanish, The Burning Plain remains a powerful and thought-provoking collection that continues to resonate with readers today.
