Description

Sentaro's life is marked by failure and loneliness, his dreams of becoming a writer long forgotten. He spends his days in a tiny confectionery shop, selling dorayaki filled with sweet bean paste. But everything changes with the arrival of Tokue, an elderly woman with a troubled past and a secret that will have devastating consequences.

As their friendship blossoms, Tokue teaches Sentaro the art of making sweet bean paste, but social pressures and the weight of the past threaten to tear them apart. This moving novel explores the burden of the past and the redemptive power of friendship, as captured in the beautiful prose of Durian Sukegawa.

Translated into English for the first time, Sweet Bean Paste is a heart-wrenching tale of love, loneliness, and the transformative power of human connection.
