Speak Out! The Brixton Black Women's Group is a landmark collection of writing from one of the first and most important black radical organisations of the 1970s. For the first time, this book brings together the writings of the Brixton Black Women's Group.
The group was established in response to the lack of interest in women's issues within male-dominated Black organisations. Its aim was to create a space where women of African and Asian descent could meet to focus on political, social and cultural issues affecting black women. The group published its own newsletter, Speak Out, which kept alive debates about feminism and black politics.
This collection preserves the Brixton Black Women's Group's unique perspective on immigration, housing, health, culture, and more. It offers a powerful insight into the experiences of black women in Britain during this period.
