The Aorai handled easily in the light breeze, her captain running her well as she came to rest just outside the surf's suck. The atoll of Hikueru, a circle of pounded coral sand a hundred yards wide and twenty miles in circumference, was visible low on the water. The schooner's crew watched as the divers worked, their activities a testament to the lagoon's unique features.
