The Clash, Sex Pistols, Buzzcocks, and The Damned took to the stage, but an unknown Siouxsie and the Banshees, featuring Sid Vicious, Steve Severin, Marco Pirroni, and Siouxsie Sioux, delivered a 20-minute performance art improvisation. This impromptu set included fragments of 'Deutschland, Deutschland, Uber Alles', 'Twist And Shout', and 'Satisfaction', as well as the band's signature 'The Lord's Prayer', a white-noise assault on the senses. Several line-up changes later, Siouxsie and the Banshees achieved mainstream success. Signed to a major record label, they released 'Hong Kong Garden' and created one of the most influential post-punk albums, The Scream. This album was a savage critique of suburban culture and the dangers of blind conformity. The band's 1979 album, Join Hands, marked a milestone in their growth, with tracks like 'Icon' and 'Playground Twist' showcasing their increasing maturity. Laurence Hedges' book explores the early years of Siouxsie and the Banshees, from their humble beginnings to their rise to fame.
