Gabe Stonecroft and Ezra are scouts for the Kuccuntikka village of the Shoshone, tasked with attending the grand encampment. Their encounter with the scouts from the Tukkutikka band sets them on a different course altogether. A woman warrior, equal to Gabe in every count, challenges him at every turn. Their lives take a challenging turn when they are attacked by Blackfoot and later raiding parties of Hidatsa warriors strike another Shoshone band. An old friend asks Gabe and Ezra to join the vengeance party to rescue five captive girls, including one known as Sacajawea. The two explorers face numerous challenges in their quest. As tensions rise, a jealous Shoshone warrior seeks vengeance against the woman warrior war leader and her new mate, Spirit Bear - also known as Gabe Stonecroft. A fierce battle ensues between Cougar Woman and her rival, threatening the fragile balance of power among the Shoshone scouts.
