Description

The Safety at Street Works and Road Works A Code of Practice is a statutory reference manual for utility companies, local authorities, and street work contractors. It sets out the requirements for signing, lighting, and guarding at street works and road works, covering all of the UK with national variations. The code is now compulsory for highway/road authorities in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, and applies to single carriageway roads and dual carriageways with a speed limit of 40 mph or less. The code is divided into three parts, covering basic principles, operations, and equipment and vehicles, as well as site layout diagrams. It provides guidance on risk assessment, traffic control measures, and the signing and conspicuity requirements for work vehicles. The manual also includes advice on high visibility clothing and the safety of pedestrians and cyclists. This edition, published in 2013, supersedes the 2001 edition and is effective from 1 October 2014.
