Description
The Russian Criminal Tattoo Encyclopaedia is a unique and fascinating study of the tattoos worn by Russia's most notorious criminals. Over three decades, Danzig Baldaev documented over 3,000 tattoos from prisoners in St. Petersburg's Kresty Prison, including those of the vory v zakonye, or legitimate thieves. His work provides insight into the world of these individuals, where their position, history and even sexual preference are displayed indelibly on their bodies. This second volume of the encyclopaedia collects all-new photographs and drawings, authenticated by Sergei Vasiliev's photographs and made sense of by Baldaev's own drawings. The result is a glimpse into an extraordinary world that challenges our understanding of crime and identity.
