Description

Russian Criminal Tattoo Archive presents a unique collection of authentic material on Russian criminal subculture. This volume features ink-on-paper drawings by Danzig Baldaev, photographic albums by Arkady Bronnikov, and prisoner portraits by Sergei Vasiliev. The meticulous depictions of tattoos are reproduced in facsimile, authenticated by the artist's signature and stamp, alongside his handwritten notes. The photographs by Arkady Bronnikov showcase inmates in intimate settings, while Danzig Baldaev's drawings convey a visceral temporality, as if they were drawn on human skin. Sergei Vasiliev's portraits capture the trust he gained within the closed criminal society. This publication is the only collection of primary material on this subject, highlighting the pioneering methods used by these individuals to document Russian Criminal Tattoo Archive.
