Ashcroft's rise to fame was marked by a legendary appetite for psychedelic drugs and a penchant for physical collapses, as well as the creation of iconic songs like "Bittersweet Symphony". However, the band's volatile nature ultimately led to their acrimonious split in 1999. Undeterred, Ashcroft continued to record and release solo material, with corresponding arena tours that often dwarfed the scale of The Verve's own huge venues.
