Description
The Democratic Republic of Congo's complex history is brought to life in this comprehensive graphic history. Author and illustrator Edmund Trueman explores the country's fractious story, from colonialism and civil war to economic exploitation and cultural resilience. Through deft illustrations and storytelling, Congo's history comes vividly alive. The book sheds light on the devastating impact of colonial rule, including the brutal regime of King Leopold II, and the subsequent struggles for independence and self-determination. It also highlights the contributions of Congolese musicians and women in local business, who have played a significant role in shaping the country's culture and economy. This graphic history provides a nuanced understanding of Congo's past, revealing the intricate relationships between politics, economics, and culture that have shaped the country's trajectory.
