Description

Description

Please by Jericho Brown explores the intersections of love and violence in African American/male identity and sexuality. This collection of poems transforms moments of intimacy and humor into spontaneous music, drawing on the influence of soul culture to characterize loss, loneliness, addiction, and denial. The poems in Please are full of imaginative and often frightening imagery, evoking the rhythms and sounds that surround us. Like a radio favorite, this album plays in the background of our understanding of history and culture, shaping our perceptions of identity and humanity. Jericho Brown's voice is an accurate reflection of the blues, capturing the complexities of American life with precision and power.
