Description
Selected Poetry and Prose presents the core work of Stéphane Mallarmé, a key figure in the development of Symbolist poetry. This collection brings together his major elegies, sonnets, and other verse, alongside excerpts from the dialogue "Hériodiade" and visual poem "Dice Thrown Never Will Annul Chance".
The work also includes drama, letters, essays, and reviews, offering a comprehensive view of Mallarmé's oeuvre. His influence extended beyond poetry to the arts, with his Paris apartment serving as a hub for literary gatherings that drew prominent figures such as Paul Valery and André Gide.
Edited by Mary Ann Caws, this translation features contributions from fourteen translators over several decades, showcasing the diverse range of interpretations that Mallarmé's work has inspired. A valuable resource for those seeking to engage with his poetry in English.
