Description

New York Living Rooms is the first instalment in Dominique Nabokov's trilogy of interior photography works. Originally commissioned as a photo essay for The New Yorker in 1995, it offers a frank and intimate study of the interior living spaces of some of the city's most famous cultural figures.

Nabokov calls these images her "interior portraits", capturing a range of spaces that reflect their occupants' personalities. From indulgent to bare, each room is recorded without commentary or interpretation, leaving the viewer to draw their own conclusions.

This updated edition brings back to life an era of New York City history through Nabokov's original Polaroid photos and James Fenton's introduction. It sets the stage for the following editions in Paris and Berlin, which will be re-issued later this year.
