Description

On 13th October 1972, Coche Inciarte boarded Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 with plans to sit beside his friend Gastón Costemalle. However, another passenger took the seat ahead of him, leaving Coche further back in the plane.

The plane crashed on a mountain peak, resulting in the deaths of several passengers and crew members. Twenty-nine survivors were left stranded in the Andes for 72 days, facing unimaginable challenges to stay alive. Coche, who had developed gangrene in one leg, found ways to lift the spirits of his fellow survivors through humour, love and support.

This memoir, written in memory of Gastón, recounts Coche's extraordinary experience on the mountain and reflects on its profound impact on his life and what it means to be human. A gripping and thought-provoking account of survival, hope and resilience.
