During World War II, Irena Sendler, a Polish Catholic social worker, organised a rescue network to save 2,500 Jewish children from the Warsaw ghetto. Her bravery was later suppressed by communist Poland and remained unknown for 60 years. In 2009, three high school girls from Kansas discovered Sendler's story and created a history project that would change her fate. Their play, Life in a Jar, was first performed in Kansas before touring across the United States and eventually reaching Poland, where it helped to elevate Irena Sendler to a national hero. This book tells the inspirational story of how one person can make a difference and the power of tolerance and respect for all people.
