Description

Samuel Ledgard's story began with a pub in 1896, but it wasn't long before he turned his attention to catering and needed transport. In 1912, he bought a lorry and started services to the seaside resorts of Scarborough and Blackpool in 1913. The First World War put an end to expansion, but Ledgard resumed coastal runs in 1920 and continued to grow, purchasing local bus operators. After his death in 1952, his son took over and adopted a policy of buying mainly second-hand buses. This book takes a nostalgic look at the iconic Ledgard buses from the 1950s and '60s. With its focus on the history of the buses themselves and their routes, as well as an examination of the fleet, this book is a unique insight into these charming vehicles. Featuring a variety of images with illustrative captions, it's a must-have for anyone interested in transportation or nostalgic about the past.
