Description
John James Audubon is a biography that tells the story of one of America's most important naturalists and painters. John Burroughs, a fellow naturalist, recounts Audubon's life in this volume. Born Jean Rabin in 1785, Audubon later changed his name to John James Audubon after immigrating to the United States in 1803. He had an early affinity for birds, which was encouraged by his father. This interest would stay with him throughout his life, leading to extensive studies of American bird species and detailed illustrations of them in their natural habitats. Audubon's most famous work is The Birds of America, a color-plate book published between 1827 and 1839. In this volume, he identified 25 new species and created some of the finest ornithological works ever completed.
