Description

Jerusalem, a comic and contemporary vision of life in England, tells the story of Johnny 'Rooster' Byron, a local waster and Lord of Misrule, on the morning of St George's Day. As the council officials, his son, a vengeful father, and a motley crew of mates converge on him, the morning unfolds into a chaotic and unpredictable day.

The play premiered at the Royal Court Theatre in London in July 2009, directed by Ian Rickson and starring Mark Rylance. It later transferred to the Apollo Theatre in the West End and played on Broadway in 2011. This prize-winning play explores the complexities of modern English life, where the lines between community and chaos are constantly blurred.
