Description
Gershon Baskin's memoir of thirty-eight years of pursuit of peace in the Middle East begins with a childhood on Long Island and a bar mitzvah trip to Israel with his family. He recounts his journey, from joining Young Judaea in the US to living on a kibbutz in Israel, where he spent pivotal years living with Arabs in the village of Kufr Qara. Baskin's efforts to promote mutual understanding between Jews and Palestinians led to the creation of the Institute for Education for Jewish-Arab Coexistence and the Israel/Palestine Center for Research and Information, a joint Israeli-Palestinian public policy think-and-do tank. His work took him across borders, often with a kaffiyeh on his dashboard, and he served as an outside agitator for peace and an advisor on the inside of secret talks. Through his experiences, Baskin shares a unique perspective on the complexities of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the challenges of promoting peace in the region. This memoir offers a fascinating insight into one person's long-term commitment to finding a path towards peace.
