Description
A sweeping historical novel about one woman's struggle against war, racism and ecological devastation. In 1920s South Tyrol, Trina longs for a different life as she dedicates herself to becoming a teacher. However, when Mussolini's regime abolishes the use of German as a teaching language, her future is put in jeopardy. As Trina navigates this new climate of fear and uncertainty, her life is again disrupted by the 'Great choice' announced by Germany, which forces communities in South Tyrol to decide whether to move to Germany. The town splits, and those who choose not to leave are seen as traitors and spies. When Trina returns home, she finds that her daughter is missing. Trina's story is a powerful exploration of the human cost of war, racism and ecological devastation, set against the backdrop of one woman's desperate fight for survival in a rapidly changing world.
