Description

The Historia Augusta: Clodius Albinus A collection of biographical works covering the lives of Roman emperors from Hadrian to Carinus, this text provides a unique insight into the second and third centuries of the Roman Empire. Written in a style that blends biography and literary criticism, it offers vivid characterizations of emperors both good and bad. The Historia Augusta is a complex and enigmatic work, with its origins and purpose remaining obscure. The text has been subject to various interpretations over the years, but its value lies in its ability to provide a detailed account of historical events, often beyond what other sources can offer. This revised edition by David Magie brings the text up-to-date with modern scholarship, offering a fully current translation and annotation. For those interested in ancient Roman history or biography, this collection is an important resource that provides a unique perspective on the lives of the emperors who ruled during this period.
