Shipbuilding was undergoing significant changes, driven by advances such as electric welding, which would eventually replace traditional methods like the Rivet Squad. Despite these changes, Henry Robb Shipyard played a major role in the massive new shipbuilding programme, with vessels being ordered from prominent customers like Ellerman Lines and the Union Steamship Company of New Zealand. This book brings to life the people who were at the heart of the yard and community, with personal accounts included from those who built or sailed on these vessels. It is a story of a mighty industry in decline, one that had once dominated the nation's shipbuilding output but was now struggling to survive.
