Description
The Enigma Autodidact explores the role of self-taught artists in contemporary art history. This large-scale exhibition brings together over 100 works from private and public collections, spanning around 1,000 square meters and covering the period from the 1950s to the present day. The show focuses on the intentions, processes, and gestures of self-directed artists who have innovated aesthetically and achieved recognition in their field. It also examines the role of informal knowledge in professional practice and its impact on our understanding of autodidacticism in art today. The exhibition was held at the Museum of Modern Art and Contemporary Art in Saint-Étienne Metropole, France, from October 2021 to April 2022.
