Edvard Munch's radical modernity in painting was a challenge for his contemporaries. This publication explores how he influenced the art scene in Berlin around 1900, receiving support that allowed him to continue developing his work. In 1892, Edvard Munch was invited by the Association of Berlin Artists to an exhibition, where his colourful and sketch-like pictures caused a stir among the public. He moved to Berlin on the Spree, where he learned new techniques for printed graphics and presented several continuous series of paintings that would become central to his oeuvre. The concept of "Magic of the North" in Munch's work shifted from romantic fjord landscapes to psychologically concentrated pictorial worlds.
