Diclofenac Sodium Matrix Tablets: A Study on Sustained Release Formulations
This research work presents the preparation of sustained release Diclofenac Sodium matrix tablets using different polymers, including Kollidon SR, Poly Ethylene Glycol, and HPMC, at varying percentages. Five batches of 260mg tablets were prepared using both direct compression and wet granulation methods, with different shapes aimed at modifying the dissolution behavior of the drug.
The dissolution study of each formulation was conducted at pH levels of 1.2, 6.5, and 7.4, revealing that higher pH levels resulted in increased drug release. Conversely, lower pH levels resulted in limited drug release due to the acidic nature of the drug. The study also found that certain shapes, such as the caplet oval shape, yielded better drug release at higher pH levels compared to other shapes.
