Description
Dear Selection Committee is a subversive and sexy love song to an endlessly messy self and the burning world it inhabits. Framed as a job application, these poems shift among registers of loss, desire, and joy as they wrestle with issues such as climate change, addiction, modern distractions, gender presentation, religious questioning, and the nature of pain. Through apostrophic power, Melissa Studdard's poetry reveals great beauty amidst chaos, suggesting that life can feel like a bumpy ride if we lay aside our anxieties long enough to look out the window. The result is a collection that attests to the complexity and messiness of human experience. With its unique blend of humor, literary depth, and surrealist underpinnings, Dear Selection Committee is a thought-provoking and deeply personal work that invites readers to peer into the poet's inner world.
