Project Cleansweep takes its name from a Ministry of Defence report issued in 2011. This report assessed the risk of residual contamination at sites in the UK used for chemical and biological weapons manufacture, storage, and disposal from World War I to the present day. The photographs in this book reveal more than eighty sites across the UK, including Dorset and Devon, the Peak District, Yorkshire's woodlands, and the Scottish Highlands. These images disrupt the pastoral myths of the British landscape, exposing material realities embedded in the land itself.
