Martin Bernal argues that classical culture has deep roots in Afroasiatic cultures, which have been systematically ignored or suppressed since the 18th century.
The popular view is that Greek civilization was the result of conquest by Indo-European speakers from the North. However, Bernal shows how nearly 40% of the Greek vocabulary has been plausibly derived from Ancient Egyptian and West Semitic languages, extending beyond trade to politics, religion, and philosophy.
