The book tells the story of a protagonist who is transported to a distant planet, Poloda, by means reminiscent of John Carter's journey to Mars. The novel is set in a unique solar system where all the planets are aligned in the same orbit and connected by an atmosphere tube that allows for travel between worlds via airplane. For the first time, this restored edition presents the author's preferred text, previously unknown to readers due to heavy editing in the 1941 Blue Book magazine publication. The original typescript has been recovered from the archives in Tarzana, California, and the restored text is now available in its entirety. The edition features a newly commissioned frontispiece by renowned artist Mark Schultz, classic interior illustrations by Roy G. Krenkel, an introduction by noted science fiction author Paul Di Filippo, and a preface by ERB, Inc.
