Description
Ben's Revolution tells the gripping story of Benjamin Russell, a young boy caught up in the start of the Revolutionary War. Based on an episode from Nathaniel Philbrick's New York Times bestseller Bunker Hill: A City, A Siege, A Revolution, this account allows readers to experience history from a child's perspective.
On April 19th, 1775, Benjamin's teacher announces that the war has begun, and he rushes out with his friends to bear witness. As Boston is sealed off, Ben finds himself in the middle of a war, with no way to reach his family. But instead of fear, he feels eager to help the Patriots. He becomes a clerk to Israel Putnam, a general in the provincial army, and watches as the militia grows into an organized force.
As the Battle of Bunker Hill erupts, Ben is awed by the bravery of the Patriots, although saddened by the toll war takes. Later, he goes on to become an apprentice at a Revolutionary newspaper, reporting on historic events like the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
