Description

A Place to Call Home by Val Wood tells the story of Ellen and her family as they leave their rural home in search of a better life. When the old landowner dies, Ellen's husband Harry is forced to take a job in nearby Hull, leaving them with no choice but to start anew.

The road ahead is filled with hardships and challenges, but Ellen and Harry are determined to make the best of things. They forge friendships with other newcomers and refugees, even helping them to succeed in their new surroundings. However, tragedy soon threatens Ellen's fragile happiness, leaving her to wonder how much more she can sacrifice before they find a place to call home.
