The book claims to be the result of a three-year channeling process, beginning in 1883, in which Oliver received visions, automatic writing, and mental dictations from a spirit who revealed the story of Atlantean culture. The book describes a highly advanced society, with technological and scientific advancements that seem almost futuristic. It portrays the daily life of Poseidi citizens, including their social, economic, and religious structures, as well as their personal histories and experiences. The book also explores deep esoteric subjects, including karma and reincarnation, and describes Phylos' final incarnation in 19th-century America. In this incarnation, Phylos travelled to Venus/Hysperia in a subtle body, while his physical form remained at the temple inside Mt Shasta.
