Description
Chen Chen's second collection, Your Emergency Contact Has Experienced an Emergency, is a deeply personal and unflinchingly honest exploration of family, identity, and belonging. Through unexpected playfulness and irrepressible humour, these poems celebrate life despite the many challenges that threaten to extinguish it. In this anarchic and hybrid work, Chen continues his examination of what one inherits and what one invents as a queer Asian American living through tumultuous times. The book's diverse settings, from New England to West Texas and a landlocked province in China, serve only to underscore the fluidity of identity and experience. Ultimately, Your Emergency Contact Has Experienced an Emergency is a testament to the human capacity for resilience and connection in the face of uncertainty.
