Description
In this dark and genre-defying picture-book adaptation of Snow White, acclaimed artist Beatrice Alemagna tells the story from the point of view of the jealous stepmother queen. This bold adaptation of the Grimm's original text puts us in touch with our own messy, shadowed, fraught, and fragile inwardness.
The queen's blinding obsession and insatiable jealousy are revealed through a repeating pattern of text and image, where each double spread of text is followed by four striking full-spread paintings. This large format picture book is both riveting and unsettling, inviting us to consider the kinds of behaviors and situations that invite evil.
By exploring the queen's hatred and her undoing, Alemagna raises important questions about goodness and innocence, and invites us to think critically about the complexities of human life. This picture book for older readers is a thought-provoking and visually stunning adaptation of a story.
