The X Class submarines were conceived during World War II, a small craft of around 51ft long, designed to be towed by a 'mother' submarine with a passage crew on board. Their midget size allowed them to attack with stealth and return to their towing submarine. This book tells the story of the X Class submarines, from their wartime origins through to the 1950s Stickleback class. The author, an ex-submariner, charts the evolution of these unique craft, including the grand plans for the Stickleback class to carry a nuclear naval mine.
