Description
Caitriona Lally's novel Wunderland is a poignant exploration of isolation and family dynamics. The story revolves around Roy, an Irishman who has been exiled to Hamburg, where he works as a cleaner at the Wunderland miniature exhibition. His life is one of quiet routine, until his sister Gert visits for a few days, bringing with her her own struggles and demons. As Gert tries to reconnect with Roy, she must also confront her own exhaustion and desperation in the face of her husband's deepening depression. The novel is a nuanced portrayal of complex relationships and the ways in which people can both hurt and support each other. Through its thoughtful and introspective narrative, Wunderland offers a powerful exploration of the human experience, one that is both deeply personal and universally relatable.
